This IDC study forecasts spending growth in APEJ for public IT cloud services through 2018, segmented by five functional categories within 14 regions/countries. Among the key findings are that public IT cloud services spending reached $3.2 billion in 2014 and is expected to total over $7.0 billion in 2018, with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 21.7%. Australia accounted for 31% of IT cloud services spending in 2014, but the Australia share will drop to 26% by 2018. The China market will have outpaced Australia during 2017, reaching 28% of the total public cloud services market in 2018.
Chris Morris, associate VP, Cloud Services in APEJ, stated that "the cloud market in APEJ remains very fragmented -- different countries have very different adoption and service consumption patterns -- with different growth rates for different cloud categories in different countries." In 2014, software as a service (SaaS) accounts for 50% of 2014 cloud services spending, with infrastructure as a service (IaaS) accounting for 44%. Platform as a service (PaaS) and cloud storage services will be the fastest-growing categories with 2014-2018 CAGRs of 38.8% and 31.5%, respectively.
