This IDC study forecasts strong growth in the worldwide discrete testing services market as companies turn to project-based or fully outsourced testing services to support application testing or product engineering testing requirements. While enterprises, ISVs, OEMs, and technology companies can procure these services in either discrete or bundled testing contracts, this study specifically focuses on the spending tied to standalone testing services engagements. IDC forecasts a five-year CAGR of 12.5% for discrete worldwide testing services, reaching an estimated $39 billion by 2019.
"Growth in application portfolios, momentum with the Internet of Things, increased adoption of cloud applications, and rising interests to modernize existing applications have intensified quality assurance pressures within the enterprise," explains Pete Marston, research manager of Application Development, Testing, and Management Services. "The vast infrastructure investments and increased technical complexities within application portfolios will force organizations to seek out third-party testing services not only to provide expertise across a variety of testing services but also to speed up application or product rollout and keep testing costs from burning through IT budgets."
