In a breeze: Wind will remain a viable energy alternative, sustaining industry demand

Abstract

Wind Turbine Manufacturing in the US
The Wind Turbine Manufacturing industry has benefited from state and federal renewable energy policies over the five years to 2019. A majority of states require utilities to generate a portion of their electricity from renewable sources, including wind. In addition, the federal renewable electricity production tax credit (PTC) has led to an increase in new wind power capacity over the past five years. However, turbine purchases have been timed to benefit from federal tax incentives, which have been inconsistent and caused significant volatility. Overall, industry revenue has increased during the current period. However, this growth is expected to reverse over the five years to 2024, as industry revenue is projected to decline sharply. Although the PTC was largely left in place during recent tax reforms, it had previously been set to be phased out over the coming years. Despite this anticipated decline, the industry will likely retain significant growth potential as the wind sector is expected to emerge as an increasingly viable alternative energy source.

The Wind Turbine Manufacturing industry manufactures wind turbine blades, towers, generators and related parts. Industry operators also provide maintenance and support services for installed wind turbines.

This report covers the scope, size, disposition and growth of the industry including the key sensitivities and success factors. Also included are five year industry forecasts, growth rates and an analysis of the industry key players and their market shares.
