The Brazilian education sector is formed of 4 main segments: pre-school, primary, secondary and superior education. The number of schools decreased from 206 thousand to 191 thousand between 2006 and 2014. Private education plays a tremendous role in superior education, holding about 87% of schools and 73% of enrolments. In primary and secondary education, the private sector is less relevant but has increased its share from 17% to 21% over the past 8 years. Distance education has grown in popularity, covering a variety of subjects and education levels. International education is becoming more relevant and Canada remains the first destination for Brazilian students.

This report briefly analyses the Brazilian education sector, covering schools, enrolments, graduations and faculties, as well as distance and international education modalities in the country.
