This IDC study quantifies the U.S. multifunction printer market opportunity in detail, analyzing issues, trends, and product advances in this market. Unit shipments, value of shipments, and average selling value (ASV) information is presented. Data for 2015-2020 is actual, whereas data for 2021-2025 is projected. This forecast is consistent with IDC's 4Q20 Worldwide Quarterly Hardcopy Peripherals Tracker."COVID-19 reshuffled the U.S. MFP market in 2020. As home-based inkjet and moderately priced laser MFPs experienced growth due to work-from-home office expansion, traditional office-targeted devices suffered sharp declines with school and office closures. While we anticipate more return-to-the-office activity in 2021 to right the MFP unit shipment mix, lower-priced devices will retain a larger share of the market over the long term, the primary driver being that a hybrid work model will be in place. That is, the pandemic has permanently shifted a greater portion of work to be conducted in home office locations versus what was done in the pre-pandemic period. The latest forecast reflects this new change." -- Geoffrey Wilbur, research manager, Print Industry Forecasts
