This report shows inpatient procedure numbers for all surgeries on the nervous system reported by all German hospitals between 2006 and 2014.

The report focuses on (1) Incision (trepanation) and excision on the skull, brain and meninge: craniotomy over the dome; access through the skull base; incision of the skull [craniotomy and craniectomy]; Incision of brain and meninges; stereotactic operations on skull; brain and meninges; excision and destruction of diseased tissue intracranial; excision and destruction of diseased tissue of the skull bones; incision, resection and destruction of intracranial portions of the cranial nerves and ganglia; microvascular decompression of intracranial nerve, (2) other surgeries on the skull, brain and meninges: cranioplasty; reconstruction of the meninges; incision on liquor system; creating a cerebral shunt (CSF-Shunt) ; revision and removal of a liquor shunt (CSF-Shunt); incision, excision, destruction and closure of intracranial blood vessels; reconstruction of intracranial blood vessel; creating a bypass and transposition of intracranial blood vessels; functional surgeries on skull, brain and meninges, (3) spinal cord surgeries, spinal meninges, spinal canal: incision of nerves; excision and destruction of (diseased) nerve tissue; excision of a nerve transplant; sympathectomy; epineural suture of nerve and plexus, primarily; interfascicular suture of nerve and plexus (primarily); epineural suture of nerve and plexus (secondary); interfascicular suture of nerve and plexus (secondary); epineural suture of nerve and plexus with transplant; interfascicular suture of nerve and plexus with transplant; percutaneous sympathectomy with control by imaging methods and (4) nerves and nerve ganglia surgeries: epineural suture of nerve and plexus with transposition (primarily); interfascicular suture of nerve and plexus with transposition (primarily); epineural suture of nerve and plexus with transposition; (secondary) interfascicular suture of nerve and plexus with transposition (secondary); epineural suture of nerve and plexus with transplantation and transposition; interfascicular suture of nerve and plexus with transplantation and transposition; neurolysis and decompression of a nerve; neurolysis and decompression of a nerve with transposition.

Altogether data for nearly 800 specific nervous system surgeries are presented in this report.

Data are divided by federal state and procedures per 100.000 inhabitants per federal state. Furthermore the “Top 5 performers" - hospitals with the most surgery procedures on the nervous system - are identified. These data will support strategic business decisions and guide sales activities.
