Opioids, NSAIDs, and local anesthetics are the major analgesics used to treat pain. The long term use of analgesics has been linked to gastrointestinal problems. Pain is treated with analgesics, also called as pain killers, many of which are accessible without a prescription, including acetaminophen, aspirin, or ibuprofen. These medicines are termed as non-prescription or OTC analgesics and can be used either alone for mild pain or in combination with other medicines for severe pain.
