The Ministry of Transportation (MoT) of Saudi Arabia and Egypt are jointly planning to construct a bridge connecting the Saudi Arabia and Egypt.

The project involves the construction of a 48.2km bridge between Ras Alsheikh Hamid, in Saudi Arabia and Nabq, just north of Sharm el-Sheikh, in Egypt. It will include the construction of pedestrian ways and retaining walls, and the installation of lights and overhead sign structures.

Arab Contractors was appointed to undertake the feasibility study, which was completed in September 2014.

In April 2016, Saudi Arabia’s Shura Council approved the draft "border demarcation" agreement signed between Saudi Arabia and Egypt with unanimous vote.

The project will connect business and industrial zone, "NEOM", crossing over the Red Sea’s straights of Tiran - an area which is controlled based on Israel’s 1979 peace treaty with Egypt. Hence, the project needs approvals from the Israeli government.

University of Cairo has been appointed to undertake study works on the project. Feasibility study is underway, which will take three years to complete.

The project involves the construction of a 48.2km bridge between Ras Alsheikh Hamid, in Saudi Arabia and Nabq, just north of Sharm el-Sheikh, in Egypt.

The US$4,000 million project includes the following:
1. Construction of connecting roads
2. Construction of pedestrian ways
3. Construction of retaining walls
4. Construction of other related facilities
5. Installation of lights and overhead sign structures
