Even though the USA was an early adapter and until recently the world leader in B2C E-Commerce, there is still room for continued growth, according to sources cited in this new report by yStats.com. Online retail is growing at a rate at least three times faster than total retail sales in the USA as Internet connected consumers increasingly make purchases online.

Over half of shoppers state that they shop as much online as in-store for categories such as apparel, books and electronics. Some sources, cited in this publication expect online retail in the USA to constitute more than 10% of total retail sales by the end of 2017. B2C E-Commerce growth rates in the USA are expected to continue in double digits through the next five years, though much faster growth will be seen in developing economies, particularly in Asia.

Several market trends contribute to the sustained growth of online retail in the USA. Omnichannel shopping, combining online shopping and store visits with practices such as click and collect or research on mobile device while in-store add to E-Commerce growth. Shopping through a smartphone or tablet also drives online buying: forecasts cited in the yStats.com report indicate that over half of online retail will be through mobile commerce by 2021. By mobile devise or by computer, Amazon.com is by far the leading online merchant in the USA, and its current share of one third of total online retail sales is predicted to grow, according to some sources.
