The University of Alabama System (UAS) is undertaking the construction of a lodge and conference center in Gulf State Park, Baldwin County, Alabama, the US.

The project involves the construction of a lodge and conference center comprising 350 rooms on 28,095m2 area. It includes the construction of meeting rooms, administrative space, conference rooms, leisure facilities, parking and related facilities.

Sasaki Associates has been appointed as master planner; Architecture Works, Lake|Flato Architects, Inc. and Rabun Rasche Rector Reece Architects as architects; Thompson Engineering as civil engineer; Vokert, Inc. as environmental consultant.

In October 2014, project received preliminary approval.

On April 29, 2015, Skanska was given the contract to build the project.

A public consultation on the proposed master plan was conducted on June 11, 2015. The initial design rendering and feasibility study were completed.

In September 2015, US$50 million was allocated to project, the funds would be provided by BP as settlements funds, towards damage caused by the 2010 Gulf oil spill.

In January 2016, UAS unveiled master plan of the project.

In June 2016, state auditor Jim Zeigler filed a lawsuit against the project funding from BP oil spill.

In September 2016, the Judge dismissed a lawsuit over the state auditor’s effort to block the project.

Construction activities on the project are underway and expected to be completed by the fourth quarter of 2018.
