Wellington International Airport (WIA) is planning to undertake the terminal expansion project in New Zealand.

The project involves the expansion of airport main terminal building to about 35m south and the width of the south-west pier will be doubled on a 6,000m2 area. It will include the construction of passenger lounges, domestic lounges at the northern end of the terminal, access roads and retail space and the installation of a fourth baggage carousel, safety and security systems.

It also includes the construction of 134-bed four-star hotel to the northern end of the terminal and multi-level car parking building.

Warren and Mahoney have been appointed as an architect.

Hawkins Group was appointed as a contractor, ER Construction as sub-contractor, BECA as a Structural Engineer and Aurecon Group as project manager for the project.

In November 2014, construction works on the project commenced.

On November 9, 2016, construction works completed on main terminal building and the ceremonial opening was held.

Event Entertainment and Hospitality’s subsidiary Rydges Hotels & Resorts was awarded the management contract for the hotel.

Arrow International was awarded the construction contract for the project.

On May 31, 2017, construction activities on the hotel project commenced.

Construction works on parking facilities and hotel building underway.
