Central Queensland University (CQUniversity) and Mackay Regional Council (MRC) are planning to undertake the construction of Mackay Regional Sports Precinct project in Queensland, Australia.

The project involves the construction of sports facility on a 12ha of land. It will be done in stages.

The Stage 1a will include a Athletics Facility comprising synthetic surface running track and field event facilities. The associated clubhouse building will include spectator stands, lighting, roads/drop-off areas, path links within site and landscaped surrounds.

The Stage 1b will include a Aquatic Centre comprising a 50 metre outdoor pool, heated pool and program
pool, as well as reception and amenities buildings.

It also includes the construction of a sports bar, a gym, a training center, parking space and the installation of related machinery, safety and security systems.

ROSS Planning Pty Ltd has been appointed as planning consultant; G&S Engineering Services as consulting engineer; Architectus as architect; and Hastings Deering (Australia) Ltd as equipment supply contractor for the project.

The proposed Mackay Regional Sports Precinct, approved for development at the CQUniversity of Mackay campus in Ooralea, is supported by the Mackay, Isaac and Whitsunday Regional Councils together with local businesses and organizations. The local businesses and organizations includes Dalrymple Bay Coal Terminal, and North Queensland Bulk Ports.

In March 2012, Dalrymple Bay Coal Terminal has contributed US$51,000; Mackay Regional Council has added US$36,000 to assist in finalizing detailed designs and other industry groups around Mackay $18,000 of funding for project development.

In March 2013, the final plans were designed and in June 2013, plans are exhibited for public consultation.

CQUniversity has bought the 12ha area land for US$4.4million for the project development.

In the first quarter of 2016, an application was submitted for US$7.4 million funding to National Stronger Regions Fund.

In June 2016, the Government of Queensland has assured funding.

CQUniversity is in the process of raising funds for the project development.

In January 21, 2017, The Expressions of Interest (EOI) was issued for the design and construction of stage1.

In April 2017, MRC shortlisted four companies namely FK Gardner & Sons Pty Ltd, TF Woollam & Sons Pty Ltd, ADCO Constructions Pty Ltd and Paynter Dixon Queensland Pty Ltd from a pool of nine expressions of interest.

ADCO, FK Gardner and Sons, Paynter Dixon and Woollam Constructions are the shortlisted bidders.

In November 2017, Paynter Dixon Queensland Pty Ltd has been appointed as contractor.

Construction is expected to commence in the first quarter of 2018 and scheduled to complete in the first quarter of 2019.

Pre-construction works are underway.
