Summary
Swedish utility Svenska Kraftnat (Svenska) is undertaking the construction of transmission line from Barkeryd in central Sweden to Hurva in south of Sweden.

The project involves the construction of a 250km transmission line which is divided into two parts, 61km OHL and 190km underground cable and overhead transmission line of 300kV high-voltage direct current (HVDC) to carry 1,440MW electricity.

The project will include the construction of HVDC converter stations and new electricity distribution centers, the installation of converter transformers and switch yard equipment, and the laying of transmission lines.

In January 2012, Alstom Grid and ABB Sweden were appointed as EPC contractors. Alstom’s scope of work includes the supply of HVDC converter stations, converter transformers, switchyard equipment, and construction and project management; while ABB will provide a new high-voltage underground cable system.

In June 2012, Skanska AB was awarded a contract to undertake earthwork along the cable through Varnamo in Smaland and Hurva in Skane.

In December 2013, Alstom Grid completed the construction of a 420kV electrical substation, a part of switchyard.

Construction activities are underway and scheduled to complete in May 2018.
