On May 30, 2015, NSPCL secured environment clearance (EC).

On May 11, 2016, NSPCL secured investment approval to the project from NSPCL board.

On May 16, 2016, NSPCL awarded US$233 million Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) contract to Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL) through the international competitive bidding (ICB) process.

Construction works are underway and expected to complete in December 2018.
