Summary
The Department for Transport (DfT) is developing a 5.8km bypass road in south of Newtown, Wales, the UK.

The project involves the construction of a new junction with associated road connections. It includes the construction of a wide single 2+1 trunk road, comprising two lanes in one direction and one lane in the opposite direction, a 0.3km single- carriageway trunk road at the west terminal, a 0.1km road at the east terminal, 0.11km at Dolfor Road.

On October 13, 2010, Welsh Transport (WT) announced the A483/A489 Newtown bypass road project.

On December 8, 2011, WT invited tenders for contractors to design and build the A483-–A489 Newtown bypass road project.

In April 2013, Atkins was commissioned to undertake the Transport and Economic Appraisal for the project.

In April 2013, Alun Griffiths Ltd was appointed to design and build the bypass road project.

On October 29, 2015, WT approved the Newtown bypass project.

Corderoy has been appointed as owner’s manager for the project.

Atkins and TACP have been appointed as design consultants and Capita as design sub-contractor.

On March 11, 2016, construction works commenced and scheduled to be completed by the fourth quarter of 2019.
