University of Oxford (UO) is undertaking the Radcliffe Observatory Quarter development project in South East England, the UK.

The project involves the construction of a research and teaching facility on 4ha of land.

It includes the construction of a student accommodation facility for Somerville College, a new building for mathematical institute, and a new humanities building and library and the refurbishment of Radcliffe Infirmary building and St Luke’s Chapel which will be occupied by Humanities division.

Townshend Landscape Architects has been appointed as Landscape Architects for the project.

Rafael Vinoly Architects has been appointed as design contractor for mathematical institute building and Niall McLaughlin Architects has been appointed as design contractor for Somerville College Student Building.

Laing O’Rourke has been appointed as construction contractor for Somerville facilities and mathematical institute.

In May 2008, Bennetts Associates Architects has been appointed as design contractor for humanities and library building.

On May 27, 2010, UO received planning permission from Oxford City Council.

In September 2011, construction work of Somerville college student building completed.

Elliott Thomas Ltd has been appointed as main contractor for the project. The scope of contract covers the construction of common areas for Radcliffe Observatory Quarter Development project, the liaison and management services with public, the security and access control and traffic and delivery management services.

The refurbishment work of the Radcliffe Infirmary building and St Luke’s Chapel completed in August 2012 and formally opened in October 2012.

In August 2011, construction work commenced on mathematical institute and completed on October 3, 2013.

In September 2015, The European Investment Bank (EIB) has agreed to provide funds for the project development.

Estates Services has been appointed as study consultant for new humanities building.

Planning activities are underway.
