Spill the beans: Consumers will likely increase consumption of premium products, harming industry growth
Abstract
Canned Fruit & Vegetable Processing in Canada Operators in the Canned Fruit and Vegetable Processing industry in Canada manufacture vegetable-based sauces, soups, canned produce, juices and dehydrated fruits and vegetables. The industry has struggled in recent years, with health concerns regarding some of its products alongside rising income levels prompting consumers to turn to fresher or premium alternative goods. Despite manufacturers’ efforts to introduce healthier brand extensions and safer packaging, demand for industry products has waned. In addition to the complications the industry has experienced from health concerns, rising levels of international trade have increasingly damaged the industry over the past five years. Competition from imports has risen drastically, with imports as a share of domestic demand rising. Over the five years to 2024, consumers will opt for fresh produce and ingredients, rather than canned food products. While the industry will develop new and healthier products with safer packaging, this will only serve to mitigate the rate of decline.
Operators in the Canned Fruit and Vegetable Processing industry in Canada purchase fruits and vegetables and process them with other ingredients to create a variety of food products including canned fruit and vegetables, juices and drinks (except frozen), canned soups (except seafood), jams, baby food, sauces and dehydrated fruits and vegetables. The final products are then packaged and sold to consumers at various retail channels.
This report covers the scope, size, disposition and growth of the industry including the key sensitivities and success factors. Also included are five year industry forecasts, growth rates and an analysis of the industry key players and their market shares.
