In February 2014, KwaZulu-Natal Department of Environment Affairs rejected the environmental impact report and asked to provide additional information on the project.

In May 2015, KwaZulu-Natal Department of Environment Affairs approved the environmental impact report.

On January 25, 2016, KwaZulu-Natal Department of economic development, tourism and environmental affairs provided approval for the construction of the project.

In March 2016, the project is facing protest from the local residents due to environmental issues.

Keller Group plc (KGP) has been awarded as the geotechnical contractor.

Wilson Barnes has been appointed as the construction contractor.

Construction works are underway on the first building, scheduled to be complete by September 2018 and the entire project is expected to be completed December 2020.
