Husky Energy Inc. (HE) is undertaking the upgrade of its refinery in Ohio, the US.

The upgrade project involves the construction of additional refinery infrastructure to produce 40,000bpd of heavy crude as a portion of its 160,000bpd of light crude. It includes the construction of storage tanks, a loading and unloading facility, the installation of air vacuum steam condensers, and the laying of pipelines.

In fourth quarter of 2013, front end engineering and design (FEED) works were commenced.

In October 2013, HE submitted application to receive air permit and in February 2014, project received approval.

In May 2014, HE received permit to install and operate the facility and planning to apply for permit from Ohio Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

On September 23, 2014, The Linde Group was appointed as a supply contractor for the proposed project. The scope of the contract covers supply of hydrogen and steam utilities to the refinery.

In January 2015, project has been put on hold due to low crude oil prices and unexpected costs following an explosion.

In November 2015, the project received final approval from the council.

Construction works are underway with completion expected in 2018.
