Summary
PT Sorik Marapi Geothermal Power (SMGP) is undertaking the Sorik Marapi Geothermal power plant project in Northern Sumatra, Indonesia.

The project involves the construction of a geothermal power plant with a capacity of 240MW. It includes the construction of a powerhouse, substation, drilling of wells, the installation of steam generators, turbines and transformers, and the laying of transmission lines.

The project is planned to be implemented in phases. In the first phase, the power plant will have a capacity of 55MW, which will then be increased to 240MW.

The project will be build through public-private partnership (PPP) mode.

In August 2012, SMGP consortium commenced power purchase agreement (PPA) negotiations with PT PLN.

AECOM has been appointed to undertake the engineering design services, preparation of construction drawings, topographical and geotechnical surveys and project management for the civil and infrastructure work for the project.

A power purchase agreement (PPA) with Indonesia’s state power off-taker has been signed for the project.

KS Drilling company has been appointed as drilling contractor.

On October 16, 2016, drilling works on the site commenced.

Drilling works are progressing with two drilling rigs at the site. The first phase is expected to be commissioned in April 2018.
