Summary
The General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways (GDDKiA) plans to extend the S6 expressway with the construction of a bypass road at the Tricity Metropolitan Area in Pomeranian Voivodeship, Poland.

The project involves the construction of a 30km road with two lanes in each direction, four interchanges, 30 bridges, two rest areas, 7km of noise screens and 50 wildlife crossings.

The project also includes the reconstruction of several sections of the local road and utility supply network.

The project has been divided into two sections:

i. Chwaszczyno interchange to the Zukowo interchange, and

ii. Zukowo interchange to the Gdansk Poludnie interchange

Additionally, the project also includes the construction of an 8km southern bypass road of Zukowo, to be built separately from the two sections of the S6 expressway and will be connected with the S6 through an interchange.

In November 2012, Lafrentz Polska delivered the technical-economic-environmental study for the project.

In December 2014, an appeal was made to regional administrative court against Gdansk environmental Regional Directorate of Environmental Protection’s (RDOS) environmental permit for the project.

In May 2015, Multiconsult Polska signed the contract for concept design.

In September 2015, GDDKiA issued a request for qualification (RFQ) for the selection of a design build contractor for the project with a submission deadline of October 29, 2015.

In November 2015, 20 companies expressed interest in the project in response to the RFQ.

In the second quarter of 2016, RFQ process for the project was suspended.

On February 27, 2018, the Supreme Administrative Court in Warsaw gave green light for the construction of the Tri-City Metropolitan Beltway and dismissed the residents’ complaint.

Planning activities are underway.
