Summary
The Kuwaiti Ministry of Public Works (MoPW) is undertaking the extension of second and third ring road project extension in Kuwait City, Kuwait.

The project involves the extension of second and third ring road, the upgrade of Cairo and Damascus streets, the construction and maintenance of roads.

In May 2006, the MoPW received bids from five groups to undertake design works for the project. The bidders were:

COWI AS; Beirut with the local Salem Al-Marzouk & Sabah Abi-Hanna (SSH); the UK-based Halcrow with local Seif Engineering Consultants; Mouchel Parkman with the local Mazin al-SaneEngineering; and the US-based Parsons Brinckerhoff with the local Gulf Consult.

In February 2009, the comprehensive traffic study and preliminary design report for the project was submitted.

In April 2010, Parsons Brinckerhoff International, Transmotion Co. and Gulf Consult were appointed as design consultants.

In July 2015, the design and tender documentation work was concluded.

In February 2016, the MoPW issued tender for the construction, commission and maintenance of Cairo Street with April 5, 2016 as submission deadline.

The scope of contract includes the construction of 7km of at-grade roadways, 2.3km of depressed roadways in three reinforced concrete, five vehicular bridges over troughs, an elevated vehicular bridge (u-turn flyover) with 18m of roadways on ramps, seven pedestrian bridges, five utility bridges and relocation and diversion of existing services and utilities, road and footpath surfacing, road lighting, road signs, road markings, traffic signaling, surface water drainage and other associated works.

On December 4, 2016, MoPW issued invitation for bid for the following consultants : INECO (Spain), SMEC (Australia), SALFO (Greece), Parsons Brinckerhoff / WSP (USA), CDM Smith (USA/Germany), ECG (Egypt), Proyapi (Turkey), Obermeyer (Germany) to submit proposal for the study design and construction supervision for the construction and maintenance for project with bid submission due date for both Technical and Financial proposals as February 12, 2017.

In January 2017, Technical and Financial proposals due date for study, design and construction supervision contract was extended to March 12, 2017.

In August 2017, MoPW awarded Proyapi the contract to study, design and supervise the rehabilitation, construction, and maintenance for second and third ring road of the project.

Scope
The project involves the construction and maintenance of roads in Kuwait.

The US$103 million project includes the following:
