Summary
Cemtech Ltd (CL), a subsidiary of Sanghi Group of companies (SGC) is undertaking the construction of a cement plant in West Pokot County, Kenya.

The project involves the construction of a 1.2 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) capacity cement plant on 226.6ha of land and being implemented in two phases with a capacity of 600,000 tonnes per annum (TPA) each.

The project also includes the construction of a 30MW coal-based captive power plant and the installation of safety and security systems.

The raw materials required for the project will be supplied from Ortum and Sebit areas. These areas have large deposits of limestone that will last for cement factory over 50 years according to feasibility studies conducted by Lavalin International Ltd with Kerio Valley Development Authority.

Holtec Consulting Pvt. Ltd, a subsidiary of Holcim Ltd, has undertaken the geological studies for the project.

In December 2009, SCC contracted a Chinese consortium to put up its cement plant. The consortium made up of various engineering firms will also install a captive power plant.

Feasibility Study was commissioned in 2010.

In January 2013, CL received all required licenses from the government for the project implementation.

CL has secured approvals for commencement of the first phase and Sanghi Group will finance the construction of the project.

In September 2015, CL successfully solved issues to produce quality limestone and concerning the location.

In May 2016, China International Trust and Investment Corporation (CITIC) was appointed as the construction contractor.

The project involves the construction of 1.2MTPA cement plant on 226.6ha of land at Ortum in Pokot in West Pokot County, Kenya.

The US$131 million project includes the following:
1. Construction of a 600,000TPA cement plant under the first phase
2. Construction of a 600,000TPA cement plant under second phase
3. Construction of a 30MW coal based captive power plant
