Italy’s IT services market is the seventh largest in the world. It currently occupies 2.6% of the global IT services market. The market value of IT services accounts for around 33% of the overall IT market in Italy, the second highest proportion after Spain. The IT services market grew at a CAGR of 0.1% in the historic period and is expected to grow at a CAGR of 0.7% in the forecast period. The slow grown can be mainly attributed to the challenges faced during the country’s financial crisis, leading to fall in smartphone and tablet users, slow growth in social network, unemployment, reduced investment in startups, and low demand of IT services such as cloud computing, IaaS, and hardware support services.

Italy information technology services market is expected to grow from around $25 billion in 2016 to over $25.5 billion in 2020. Italy is rapidly increasing its investment in cloud computing technologies. The country’s investment in cloud technology increased by almost 25% in 2015 to reach €1.5 billion. According to NextValue, an Italian research company, the total revenue generated by cloud technology in 2014 was €1.8 billion, which equaled 7% of the total IT expenditure of the country.

In 2016, the social media penetration reached 47% while the global average was 31% . In the European region, Italy ranks amongst the highest in social network usage rate with at least 69% of internet users visiting social networks. According to eMarketer, the country’s social media users are expected to rise from 26.1 million in 2016 to 29.7 million in 2020 . The market value of IT services account for about 33% of the Italian IT market. In January 2016, it was estimated that an average social media user spends almost 2 hours on social media per day.
