Summary
Kobelco Power Moka Inc. a special purpose company (SPC) formed for Kobe Steel Ltd. (Kobe) is undertaking the construction of a power plant in Tochigi Prefecture, Japan.

The project involves the construction of a 1,248MW (624x 2) gas-turbine combined cycle power plant. It includes the construction of a powerhouse, a substation, access roads and related facilities, the installation of transformers, turbines, generators and safety systems, and the laying of transmission lines.

In February 2013, Kobe began an environmental impact assessment.

Mizuho Bank, The Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi UFJ and Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation are funding for the project development.

On March 31, 2014, a memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between Kobe and Tokyo Gas Co. Ltd. (TG) to purchase the power generated from the plant.

Fuji Electric Co. Ltd has been appointed as the turnkey contractor, Shimizu Corporation as design and construction contractor.

In November 2014, Siemens Ltd was appointed as a supply contractor for two, 400MW SGT5-8000H gas turbines along with the associated auxiliary systems to form the core of the combined-cycle power plant.

Construction works on unit I is scheduled to be completed by the second quarter of 2019 and unit II is scheduled to be completed by the second quarter of 2020.

The project involves the construction of a 1,248MW gas-turbine combined cycle power plant adjacent to Kobe Steel’s plant at the No.5 Industrial Park in Moka, Tochigi Prefecture, Japan.
