Summary
The US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), in partnership with the non-Federal sponsor (NFS) and the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (LaDOTD) are planning to expand the Mississippi river ship channel from Gulf to Baton Rouge in Louisiana.

The project involves dredging the Mississippi river ship channel by a depth of 50 feet. It includes the construction of shipping berths, a stockyard, a jetty, a loading wharf, a multi cargo facility (MCF) and related infrastructure.

The project is one of the US government’s 50 priority infrastructure projects listed under the "Priority List: Emergency & National Security Projects" document.

In May 2015, public consultation was held for the project.

LaDOTD would pay US$22.2 million of the cost under a new cost-sharing formula in the water resources bill. The federal government would spend about US$21.6 million a year to maintain the deeper channel.

On January 17, 2017, a public consultation held.
