Abstract

Flooring Installers in the US
Given the nature of the Flooring Installers industry, operators largely depend on downstream building construction markets, including both residential and nonresidential markets. Over the five years to 2018, activity in both residential and nonresidential building construction markets has largely improved from 2013 levels. Flooring installers have benefited from rising investments in housing stock with the re-emergence of residential construction markets. Demand for industry services depends on demand for new construction, which is inseparable from the cost of borrowing as these projects are largely completed through debt. Over the five years to 2023, industry operators are forecast to experience less-favorable but more-stable demand conditions. Residential construction growth during the outlook period will be steady but limited relative to growth during the previous period as housing markets normalize. Meanwhile, commercial construction activity, while remaining strong, is also anticipated to decelerate during the outlook period following a robust period of expansion.

Contractors in this industry primarily install resilient flooring, carpeting, linoleum and wood or other alternatives and prepare surfaces for the installation of flooring and floor coverings. Industry activity includes new work, additions, alterations, maintenance and repairs. This industry does not include the installation of concrete flooring (IBISWorld report 23811) or the installation of stone or ceramic floor tile (23834).

This report covers the scope, size, disposition and growth of the industry including the key sensitivities and success factors. Also included are five year industry forecasts, growth rates and an analysis of the industry key players and their market shares.
