The project involves the rehabilitation of a 100MW hydroelectric power plant.

In December 2015, the World Bank signed an agreement with Ministry of Finance to provide US$83 million funds for the project.

On June 26, 2016, A tender was announced to appoint design-build contractor with a submission deadline of July 27, 2016.

In October 2016, construction works commenced and are underway with completion scheduled by September 2022.
