Druk Green Power Corporation Ltd (DGPC) through Tangsibji Hydro Energy Ltd is undertaking the construction Hydroelectric Power Plant project in Trongsa District, Myanmar.

The project involves the construction of a 118MW hydroelectric power plant. It includes the construction of sub-stations, power house, access roads and related infrastructural facilities, the installation of turbines, generators and the laying of transmission lines.

In 2003, a reconnaissance study and in 2010, pre-feasibility study activities on the project was completed.

On October 3, 2012, Environmental and social impact assessment (ESIA) report and on December 16, 2012, the control survey on the project was completed.

A TEAM Consortium consisting TEAM Consulting Engineering and Management Co., Ltd and Kalachakra Consultancy of Bhutan was appointed to provide consultancy services for the geological and geotechnical studies on the project.

As of August 2014, DGPC is in the process of identifying a joint venture partner to develop the project. In September 2014, DGPC secured US$120 million loan from the Asian Development Bank (ADB).

On November 20, 2014, PPA for sale of 118MW Nikachhu HPP was signed with PTC India Limited.

On January 2, 2015, DGPC has invited the Expression of Interests (EoI) for consultants, a civil contractor, and equipment suppliers. The submission deadline for the Technical assistance consultancy services contract is January 15, 2015.

The submission deadline for civil construction, hydro-mechanical equipment contracts is February 27, 2015. The scope of the contract covers the construction of civil structures and supply and the installation of hydro-mechanical equipment.

The submission deadline for Electro-mechanical equipment contract is March 5, 2015. The scope of the contract covers installation of electro-mechanical equipment.

SMEC (Snowy Mountains Engineering Corporation) India has been appointed as the lead consultant.

In November 2015, DGPC signed a loan agreement of US$53.5 million with the State Bank of India (SBI) and EXIM Bank. SBI will provide US$37.8 million while EXIM bank of US$15.7 million.

On March 28, 2016, Hindustan Construction Company (HCC) appointed as EPC Contract for the project. The contract value is US$66 million.

In July 2016, construction works commenced on the project.

On March 9, 2018, DGPC issued a tender to appoint a construction contractor for Gabion Walls & Development of Turning Radius of access road to powerhouse and access road to dam colony & stockyard partition works at dam site & batching plant with the submission deadline on April 9, 2018.

Construction activities are underway and the entire project is expected complete by April 2020.
