Abstract

RV & Camper Van Rental

The RV and Camper Van rental industry exhibits a moderate level of market share concentration, with the three largest players, Cruise America Inc., Tourism Holding Limited and Apollo Tourism & Leisure Ltd., dominating the industry. Operators in this industry rent or lease recreational vehicles and campervans, as well as consigning recreational vehicles on behalf of private owners.

Key brands drive revenue growth

• Tourism Holdings Limited has exhibited substantial growth over the five years to 2018. This is primarily attributed to its acquisition strategy and successful brands. The company’s most successful brand, Road Bear RV, has the newest motorhome fleet available attracting international clients seeking rentals in the United States. The company’s growth is further attributed to success in its newest brand acquisition of El Monte RV.

Consolidation expands rental networks

• Over the five years to 2018, large industry operators have further secured their status by completing small and large mergers and acquisitions. In 2017, Tourism Holdings Limited completed its acquisition of El Monte RV, another historically large operator in the industry. As a result, Tourism Holding Limited managed to greatly increase its revenue and expand its network for RV renters to pick up and drop off vehicles. Additionally, Apollo Tourism & Leisure Ltd. acquired Canada-based CanaDream, thus expanding its international presence.

Value-add services drive internal competition
• Companies operating in the RV and Camper Van Rental industry compete based on price, availability of vehicles, location and customer service. Although pricing options can vary, the industry remains fragmented, so companies must ensure they offer competitive pricing options as well as maintain an extensive network to mitigate risk during the peak season when vehicles are in high demand. Some companies have begun to offer value-add services such as pick-up and drop-off services, one-way rentals, free shuttles to and from airports and convenience kits equipped with bedding, dishes and toiletries. Additionally, some operators have begun equipping their RVs with Wi-Fi capabilities and other state of the art technology, hoping to attract a new wave of tech-savvy campers.

This industry rents or leases recreational vehicles (RVs) and camper vans. Consigning recreational vehicles on behalf of private owners is included in this industry. Retailing RVs and lease-to-own and time-sharing arrangements are excluded from this industry.

This report covers the scope, size, disposition and growth of the industry including the key sensitivities and success factors. Also included are five year industry forecasts, growth rates and an analysis of the industry key players and their market shares.
