This IDC study examines the market shares of the major vendors in the U.S. smartwatch market in 2017."Apple finished 2017 in the same way that it finished 2016: as the undisputed leader in the U.S. smartwatch market," points out Ramon T. Llamas, research manager with IDC's Wearables team. "The introduction of a cellular-connected Apple Watch was the solution that many in the market have been waiting to see, and as a result, Apple was rewarded with its biggest volumes yet. Couple this with the company's strategic partnerships in Hermes and Nike, and the company is well positioned to meet the needs and tastes of multiple customers.""Beyond Apple, the U.S. smartwatch market is seeing upward progress," adds Llamas. "The arrival of Fitbit to the market, the expansion and differentiation across Fossil Group's many brands, the diversification of products under Garmin and Samsung, and multiple smaller vendors slowly becoming active in the market all point to overall market improvement. It's a strong note to finish on in 2017, and likewise, a strong start for 2018."
