High prevalence of intra-abdominal hypertension (IAH) and abdominal compartment syndrome (ACS) among ICU patients as well as the acceptance of technologically advanced technologies are the main factors projected to boost the demand for intra-abdominal pressure measuring devices. Intra-abdominal hypertension is a pressure greater than 12 mmHg and is based on the pressure at which organ dysfunction occurs. Normal intra-abdominal pressure (IAP) for critically ill adults should range from 5-7 mmHg.
IAH is mainly due to too much intra-abdominal volume within the abdominal cavity. Furthermore, elevated IAP is more common in patients with acute abdominal syndromes such as intestinal perforation, peritonitis, ileus, acute pancreatitis, or trauma. IAPMD is used to measure IAP to classify individuals at risk of IAH/ACS. There is a high prevalence of IAH/ACS among patients in intensive care units around the world. The prevalence of IAH and ACS is correlated with considerably higher mortality and morbidity.
Growing intra-abdominal pressure triggers tissue hypoperfusion, which can lead to decreased hepatic blood flow, multiple organ dysfunction syndromes, respiratory failure, increased intracranial pressure, renal impairment, and impairs almost any organ’s function. For example, according to an article published in the Critical Care Medicine Journal in 2019, 38-45 % of patients develop intra-abdominal hypertension that is treated in ICU settings. Increased demand for intra-abdominal pressure measuring devices for early recognition and treatment of IAH and ACS is therefore a major driver of the market.
Based on Product, the market is segmented into Equipment and Disposables. Based on Procedure, the market is segmented into Abdomen and Muscle. Based on Application, the market is segmented into Intra-abdominal Hypertension and Intra-compartment Pressure. Based on countries, the market is segmented into Germany, UK, France, Russia, Spain, Italy, and Rest of Europe.
