This IDC Market Forecast study provides a sizing of the Western European capture applications software market in 2019 and a five-year forecast through 2024 by type of deployment (public cloud versus on-premises/other software). In the past, capture applications were often packaged with enterprise content management (ECM) solutions. This was reflected in the previous IDC software taxonomy, in which capture applications were defined as a submarket of ECM. In the 2020 IDC software taxonomy, we have defined capture applications as its own functional market, recognizing the segment's importance as a standalone solution that fuels process automation and governance applications (see IDC's Worldwide Software Taxonomy, 2020 -- IDC #US45718419, January 2020). This means capture applications revenue is no longer included as a component of the enterprise content management market revenue."The paper-to-digital transition is about more than converting paper-based information into electronic formats," said Jacqui Hendriks, associate research director, European Managed Print and Content Services. "Today's scanning and capture applications combined with RPA, ML, and AI can leverage business information to provide rich IPA tools to help in making better business decisions, optimizing process efficiency, improving competitiveness, and continually enhancing employee and customer experience. Companies that aim to achieve more with the same resources, need to find ways to drive revenue growth through technology, and the changing work environment will result in increased demand for cloud-based applications."
