U.S. Paid Subscription Over-the-Top Video Services Forecast, 2020-2024

This IDC study presents a forecast of paid OTT video subscription services in the United States through 2024. The dimensions covered in the forecast include total U.S. households that subscribe to at least one paid OTT service, total number of subscriptions subscribed to by these households, and the average number of subscriptions per household. Also included in this study is a segmentation of OTT households by virtual pay TV subscriber status and an analysis of key market developments."IDC estimates that the number of households that subscribed to at least one paid subscription OTT video service in the United States totaled over 71 million at the end of 2019," says Greg Ireland, research director, TV and OTT Video at IDC. "While Netflix, Amazon, and Hulu have been dominant to date, the market is buttressed by recent service launches from Disney, Apple, HBO, and others. IDC expects new entrants to be instrumental in driving market growth in terms of both household penetration and the number of services subscribed to by each OTT household."
