This IDC study discusses the 5G RF transceiver semiconductor market forecast for the 2021-2025 period. "The market for 5G transceivers in mobile phones and mobile infrastructure is projected to grow from $2.1 billion to $8.2 billion from 2020 to 2025," said Phil Solis, research director, Connectivity and Smartphone Semiconductors at IDC. "This is being fueled by the inclusion of 5G in more mobile phones and rollouts of mid-band massive MIMO networks -- especially in China and the United States." "5G macrocell base transceiver stations need reengineered RF transceivers to process radio signals in the new frequency bands, and the FR1 C-band radio access network equipment is driving the growth of transceivers in mobile carriers' communication infrastructure," says Ben Sheen, research director, Wired and Wireless Networking and Communications Infrastructure at IDC. "More integrated RF solutions incorporating analog AD/DA data converters together with baseband processing are emerging and will have a better cost performance advantage to serve the 5G massive MIMO market in the Open RAN (O-RAN) ecosystem."
